What is the DEMO project and what were its conclutions? The DEMO project was a response to the initiative by DG Environment and demonstrated that the monitoring and verification of NOx and SO2 emission reductions from sea-going ships is feasible. Monitoring and verification were tested on reduction techniques for NOx emissions (Selective Catalytic Reduction and Internal Engine Measures) and reduction techniques for SO2 (Low Sulphur Fuel and Scrubbing technology). In order to trade emissions reductions, it is necessary to be in a position to monitor, calculate and report emission reductions by a neutral party. All sources of errors are, in general, the responsibility of the seller. More information on the scope and implementations of the project are found at www.demoproject.org
